So, I downloaded map update for my last trip. I trotted off to the tunell with it off as I know the way. On the other side I set the route I had entered and set off. After a very short time I realised I was not getting voice directions, when I tried to sort it, I was given a message on the screen " voice not compatible with this version" any ideas ?

My old 550 did that occasionally.
Either change to another voice say Australian English or take the battery out for 2 minutes to allow it to reset

And has she got a headache?

A new one on me, I’m afraid. But changing to a standard voice (i.e. one that came installed on the device, rather than one added as an update) sounds worth trying. Before resetting or restoring, making a copy of all your installed routes would be wise.

It's a garmin voice, I haven't downloaded any other voices. I don't have stored routes. How do I change to another voice?

Mine is a Garmin 2597LM for the car - might be the same settings. I go into settings, Language and Keyboard, Voice Language and have options of British English - James, British English - Kate, and British English - Serena, then a load of foreign ones. I use Serena, seems to work well.

I think only one if them is text to voice, was that way a few years ago anyway. Quite possibly Serena? The others don't give road names or numbers, just, for example, "turn right in 200 metres". Text to voice will instead say "turn right into Smith Street in 200 metres".

No joy, tried to reload the maps to see if that worked, still the same message, in the settings in the ' local' settings it says empty.
I'll leave it, the maps are there,I've changed the arm on the holder to a longer one so the screen is nearer.
