Exhaust Flap question

#1
what is the little flap in the exhaust can for, I take it the cable opens it up on full revs? can you leave it open?

what do you do with that when you take your can off? just disconnect the cable?

As always any help appreciated.

Just disconnect the cable from the servo under the side panel, leave the servo working . Mines been like it 5 years no problems

Can you disconnect it and leave the valve open with the standard pipe? I am tossing up the idea of fitting a new can but not sure what to go with to make sure I won't melt my Givi panniers. Don't want to buy an Arrow or Akropovic and find that it won't fit or sets fire to my panniers...? In the meantime, to get a bit more noise, will it do any harm to open the valve and leave it open?

What have others with panniers fitted?

Yeah, I have the Givi V35 panniers, not the Honda ones. They are a bit deeper and different shape so not sure the pipe won't be blowing hot air straight on the right hand one, or if the pipe might even sit too close to the bottom of it?

Ok - although I doubt the DAM can is much more likely to foul the panniers than the OEM can.. If you are anywhere Cambridge then you are welcome to try your panniers on my bike.

In Australia mate but thanks for the offer. Anyone have a nice 2nd hand DAM pipe for sale and willing to post to Australia? Only place I can find them is from the manufacturer in Germany - is that where you blokes buy them from as well?

DAM are a Belgian company

My end can was €565 plus shipping

You can order from their website for Australian delivery in 8 -10 days but I would check the import taxes and duty.

There is only one side effect to disconnecting the flap from the servo, it sounds better! As others have said leave the servo in place and functioning and all is fine, it doesn't know the wires not connected to it. When disconnected the flap springs fully open I interpret this as god and honda meant you to do it! mines been like this since 2 days after I bought it new in 2011 with no ill effects
