Friday i'll stop at Tescos an raid the place before i get there.

Camping having trouble with this site near but still a long hike from the travelodge.
Any campers want to point me in the direction of one that might be useable.

I like the idea of a travel lodge, it's a bit too near our holiday in May to do this,


We are looking at booking some time at this lodge for August, keeping it simple

Excellent work Alun, would it be worth asking Chas (Bumpkin) if he could sort out the rideouts as he lives not far from Hereford?

Anyone want to share a room to keep the costs down?

I can certainly look at some routes for you. What sort of distance are you looking at? Plenty of decent ones in mid Wales, feasible to make it to the coast for an ice cream if that's what floats your boat. Alternatively North Wales (Snowdonia) is within reach but would make for a long day done the interesting way. i.e. without a main road slog to get there and back.

As to camping in the area, , Lucksall is a possibility, I've never stayed there but friends have and said it was OK.

Ok Alun

Have taken the plunge, and booked the room for the fri/sat nights, guessing there will be a rideout Saturday , ride home Sunday, we will not get there till late Friday as will be after work.

Still at the reduced rate, :) but you pay upfront.

Mid wales would be fine as to miles i'm up for suggestions but 150 miles would seem about right imo.
Coast yes, an or a fish an chips stop could give peeps the chance to eat at 4 pm ish:dunno:
I'll be buying a few cans an bits at the local shop i need to keep my costs low as i'm going for a long holiday in Scotland.

Camping looked at that web site ?17 for a tent? but it looks the nearest.

Finding it difficult to to cook up a route of 150 miles as I keep getting drawn into cracking roads that I feel, as you'd be passing, should be included... :goofy:

My ideal routes are more like 190 - 200 miles. These can be truncated but it would be a shame to do so TBH.

If you want to make the coast then I think, unless you go the fastest, most direct main road route (relatively boring) there and back, covering the same ground twice (165 miles), you'll be looking at 200 miles anyway.

Route to Aberystwyth seafront for an ice-cream/bag o' chips (200 miles)
Destination Aberystwyth seafront - via the most direct, yet interesting, route possible. In places this is compromised by having to reach to the coast, missing some cracking detours, but still offers a good mixture of A and B road none of which could be classified as dull. Don't get me wrong, plenty to enjoy here.

Tea and bun stops at C, J and K. Lunch stop at H. Photo stop at F with other rest/photo stops as the mood and need requires.

Brecon - Elan Valley - A483 (200 miles)
This takes the Aberystwyth route above but cuts out the coast destination, reverses direction but adds in some bonus excellent biking roads.

Tea and bun stops at C and L. Lunch stop at J. Photo stop at H with other rest/photo stops as the mood and need requires.

Hay - Elan Valley - A483 (195 miles)
Again a variation, this time taking the route directly above and cutting out Abergavenny and Brecon but substituting Hay-on-Wye. Admittedly this only cuts 5 miles off the total...

Tea and bun stops at C and N. Lunch stop at L. Photo stop at j with other rest/photo stops as the mood and need requires.

As to camping options; I found this, don't know it but it's cheaper, at £10/night, than the £17/night that you reported that Lucksall charge.

I would vote for any of those!

How about for Sunday have a route that takes us to the east of the M5 riding around the Cotswolds, that way any of the Southerners can join the ride out for part of the way and peel off when it suits them to head for home.

We will be heading back to chipping Camden, the mrs was given a cream tea for 2 voucher from work so using that on the way back at Meg Rivers cafe.:k:

So if the route home goes that way will be happy to tag along :);):rolleyes:

I'm made up to say I've just booked the travel lodge for the Friday and Saturday. It's been a long time for one reason or another, looking forward to it already, see you end of April.

Yes Paul i've cut it back to like the first Agro just doing 2 nights.

Hope some will get in at cheaper rates or find a camp site if thats there thing.
This is why i just picked somewhere near some nice roads and a date an have gone for it.
Hope some folk turn up for a drink in the evening or just the ride if they live nearby.

Chris be good to see you been a while.
